About Me

Hello Friends!

Allow me to introduce myself.  To put it simply, I'm Melanie.  Born and raised in Arlington Heights, IL, I'm currently a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I'm studying Entomology.  Yup, go ahead and call me "the bug girl", I don't mind.  If all goes as planned, I will be graduating with my degree in May 2013, which brings me to...

Putting it UN-simply.  I have a mere five months left of being a student, and I have absolutely no idea what I want to do with my life after that.  Gulp.  I'm a young lass of only 21 years; naturally I have a long list of tasks to complete with little knowledge for what order I should complete them in.  There's a whole lot o' stuff to experience out there -- this is an exciting time.  Oh, what do I do first!

I have decided to make an arduous, 48 day, 3,300 mile trek across the country with a few comrades my first undertaking.  Why?  I figure there is so much this country has to offer that I don't even know exists right now.  A mental, physical, and emotional challenge that will allow me to meet new people, make close friends, and power myself through the countryside with my own body -- why wouldn't you take such an opportunity?

The icing on the cake is that there is an intrinsic benefit to this ride that is bigger than myself.  I have pledged to raise $6,500 dollars for the American Lung Association to fuel this ride and the multitude of amazing programs that the ALA supports.  Knowing I am helping vital lung research for those that have been touched by such pervasive diseases as emphysema and lung cancer is pretty amazing.

I hope that you will support our team and donate to this great cause!  I created this blog as a fundraising tool, but also as a means of updating friends and family on my whereabouts.  Please feel free to check back at any time on the team's progress!
